Spider veins or Telangiectasias are small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin. They can develop anywhere on the body but are commonly seen on the face around the nose, cheeks, and chin. They can also develop on the legs, specifically on the upper thigh, below the knee joint, and around the ankles. Many patients who suffer with spider veins seek out the assistance of physicians who can help improve the appearance of these vessels.
Spider veins on the face and legs are often treated with a laser. Laser therapy uses a light beam that is pulsed onto the veins in order to seal them off, causing them to dissolve. These light-based treatments require adequate heating of the veins. With photo facial or IPL we can destroy these vessels clearing the appearance of the skin tone.
Dr Wrights Tip
Broken capillaries in the face and legs can be broken fairly easily, and you may require maintenance to keep your results year long. Vessels on the legs tend to increase with age and if you are on your feet a lot, you are even more at risk. Vessels on the face can be broken with heat, stress or pressure, and if you suffer from allergies you can get them more easily around the nose.
Luckily we can treat them easily with or IPL which has no downtime and a topical anesthetic is applied to make the treatment very comfortable. Just remember, after treatment keep your workouts and heat exposure limited to let the vessel heal completely.
