What are Restylane ReFyne and DeFyne?
Restylane ReFyne and Restylane DeFyne are advanced HA (Hylauronic Acid) gel fillers that are approved for use to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles. These “next generation” facial fillers are crafted with XpresHAn Technology™. What is the Difference between ReFyne, DeFyne and other Facial Fillers?
Both Restylane ReFyne and Restylane DeFyne are made with a flexible hyaluronic acid filler which uses XpresHAn Technology – creating gels that offer a wide range of flexibility and support. Like memory foam – this gel moves and molds with your natural movement and then returns to its natural shape – so it is ideal for the areas of the face where there is a lot of movement. This cross-linking of the gel, unique to only ReFyne and DeFyne, will help support your natural expression—for results that help maintain natural movement when you’re smiling, frowning and even puckering up.
When correction needs are slight, Restylane ReFyne fits the bill. It’s designed to be very flexible and provide subtle support. It is best for mild to moderate lines or volume loss in the lower face; particularly around the mouth.
Defyne is approved for correction of moderate to deep lines, volume loss and facial contouring. For those unattractive nasolabial folds which run a little deeper, Restylane DeFyne is the answer. It’s designed to be less flexible and provide additional support.
What is Restylane ReFyne and Restylane DeFyne commonly used for at Skin MD and Beyond in Plano, Texas?
Restylane ReFyne is a “midweight” filler that Drs. Wright use to provide soft filling in areas that need subtle enhancement. Although FDA-approved for deep wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds, there are many uses of the filler beyond smile lines. As expert injectors, Drs. Wright may apply Restylane ReFyne in additional areas such as the tear troughs (under eye circles), forehead, brow, cheeks, smile lines, marionette lines, or lips. See gallery below.
Restylane DeFyne is a more robust filler, and Drs. Wright use it to provide structure and support to areas of the face that have lost volume over time. Although FDA-approved for deep wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds, Drs. Wright use advanced techniques to place the filler beyond smile lines. The marionette folds, the cheeks, jawline, and even the temples may be appropriate areas of Restylane DeFyne placement. See gallery below.

How long does Restylane ReFyne and Restylane DeFyne last?
Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne were first approved in Europe in 2010 under the brand name Emervel and have a proven safety profile demonstrated by more than one million treatments worldwide.
Every patient metabolizes injectables differently. However, in clinical studies, over 90% of patients were still satisfied with their Restylane ReFyne results at 3 months and nearly 80% still saw great results at 6 months. Results were seen to last up to 12 months for 62.3% of patients.
Restylane Defyne lasted up to 12 months in over 65% of patients, and over 70% of patients continued to see results after 6 months.
How long before I see results?
As with all hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, with Restylane ReFyne and Restylane DeFyne, you can expect immediate results upon injection. However the unique features of these HA fillers is that they do not attract water and create a sense of elasticity which leads to a more natural look immediately.
Does a Restylane ReFyne or DeFyne treatment hurt?
Similar to other fillers, the discomfort is minimal. Restylane ReFyne and Restylane DeFyne contain Lidocaine that numbs the area as it is being injected which decrease discomfort during the procedure. We also use a topical numbing agents and ice to make the procedure pain free. We do everything we can to help you feel comfortable.
Who is a Candidate for Treatment with Restylane ReFyne or Restylane DeFyne?
Anyone with signs of aging and wrinkling in areas that are prone to having motion and expression (e.g. nasolabial, accessory smile lines and marionette lines) are ideal candidates for both ReFyne and DeFyne.
Both of these fillers are FDA-approved for anyone 21 and over who have mild-to-moderate wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. Patients with severe allergies, a history of anaphylaxis, or who are allergic to ingredients in Restylane ReFyne or Restylane DeFyne should not receive treatment. Women who are pregnant or nursing should also avoid dermal filler treatments. Certain medications may also prohibit the use of Defyne; this is why it’s important to provide Dr. Wright with a full medical history.
