Stress Urinary Incontinence is the most common form of urinary incontinence. It is estimated that 15 million adult women in the USA suffer with Stress Urinary Incontinence. It is likely that the true number of people affected is much higher as many people do not tell their doctor about their incontinence, due to embarrassment. Some people wrongly think that incontinence is a normal part of aging or inevitable after childbirth and that it cannot be treated. This is unfortunate, as many cases can be successfully treated or significantly improved.
Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is a when a woman leaks urine with physical activity such as laughing, coughing, or exercising. Female stress urinary incontinence is caused by an improperly functioning urethra, or bladder neck. Normally the urethra should provide a tight seal to prevent embarrassing and unexpected leakage of urine. When there is loss of support to the muscles and ligaments that support the urethra, urine will escape as pressure is exerted on the bladder such as when a woman is coughing, sneezing, or laughing.
Many women are unaware that procedures such as ThermiVA Vaginal Rejuvenation at Skin MD and Beyond is available to treat SUI. Because of the lack of information about vaginal rejuvenation for stress urinary incontinence, many continue to live in fear of embarrassing urine leaks, often avoiding situations that may cause an embarrassing accident.
Stress urinary incontinence is often related to what is called vaginal relaxation or looseness. Combining treatment for stress urinary incontinence with vaginal rejuvenation, Dr. Wright explains is logical as vaginal rejuvenation is designed to tighten and strengthen the muscles around the vagina which addresses the root cause of many cases of stress related incontinence. ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation will reduce both the inner and outer diameters of the vagina, leaving a smaller opening and better muscle control. An added benefit to non-surgical vaginal tightening rejuvenation is that in addition to treating SUI, it has shown to be effective in enhancing sensation during intimate encounters.
