What Areas Can you Wax?

You can wax almost any area of the body. The WRxIGHT Beauty Bar offers waxing services in Plano, TX for the following:

  • face
  • pubic area (called bikini waxing)
  • legs
  • arms
  • back
  • abdomen
  • knuckles
  • feet

What Kind of Wax do you Use?

There are several types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair.

STRIP WAXING (soft wax)

This procedure involves spreading a wax thinly over the skin. A strip of muslin, either cloth or paper is applied to adhere to the wax. The strip is then quickly removed against the direction of hair growth, as parallel as possible to the skin to avoid trauma to the skin. As soft wax grabs all hair and pulls it effectively from the root on the first pass; this plus no wait time for the wax to harden, allows for the service to be quick.  As most of our clients know, with this type of wax, we can have you come during your lunch break and have you back in the office in less than 15 minutes. Hence, people like to call strip wax, speed waxing.

STRIP-LESS WAXING (hard wax)

With this procedure, a wax is applied somewhat thickly and does not use cloth or paper strips. It is applied against the hair growth. As the wax hardens it basically “shrink wraps” around the hair, but has minimal adhesion with the skin. The wax then hardens when it cools, thus allowing the easy removal by a therapist without the aid of cloths. This method is very beneficial to people who have sensitive skin. Some patients have felt that this type of waxing is less painful, but they do agree that this process does take a bit longer.

How Much does Waxing Hurt?Waxing Eyebrows

Everyone is different and has different thresholds of pain. Our therapists are trained in techniques that offer minimum discomfort when performing intimate treatments. Waxing removes many hairs at once, which is much better than tweezing one by one, and many of our patients find it more comfortable than threading.

If you are new to waxing there are some tips to help minimize any discomfort:

  • Try not to wax at least five days before or during your period. A sweet spot is three to four days after your period since a woman’s pain tolerance is typically higher right after her menstrual cycle.
  • Although not everyone needs it, you can take a pain reliever (Tylenol, Advil) 30 to 45 minutes before your wax. It will ease the pain (and your mind).

Does Waxing Damage Skin?

Waxing is an extremely effective and popular hair removal method. It can also work wonders for the skin too, as it acts as a form of exfoliation. However, it can also cause a few adverse effects on the skin, most of which are rare.

What are the Side Effects?

Some people show no signs of irritation, but other people may develop some skin redness and irritation immediately afterwards. This skin irritation resolves easily with the application of ice packs or cold compresses for a few minutes after waxing. Reddish bumps, skin rash, or minor pinpoint bleeding can also occur in people with extremely sensitive skin. This occurs also after waxing more vulnerable body parts like bikini area. These conditions are only temporary and usually only last for 24 hours

How to Minimize Side Effects

Helpful tips after waxing include:

  • Wear loose clothing to your appointment so you’ll be comfy afterward.
  • We cannot perform waxing on anyone who is or recently has been on certain medications (Renova, Retin-A, Accutane, or similar medications) or whose skin has been sensitized by overexposure to the sun, laser treatments, etc.
  • Using any anti-aging or acne creams that may contain a retinoid will be extra susceptible to getting burned and peeling from waxing since those creams loosen the attachment of skin cells and cause increased exfoliation. It is important to avoid these creams one week before your waxing.
  • The area should be kept clean and nourished with special post-wax lotions to keep the skin smooth and supple.
  • Reduce any irritation by avoiding hot baths for 24 hours, staying out of the sun at least for the day, and using Polysporin on particularly red areas.

How Many Wax Sessions Are Needed?

Typically most of our clients will get waxed every 4 – 6 weeks. But, because hair only needs to be 1/4 inch in length to achieve expected results, people should get waxed every three to four weeks (unless your hair grows very slowly), while underarms and facial services should be done more frequently.

One of the benefits of waxing is that the more you wax, the thinner and finer the hairs become when growing back, this means no more thick, black hairs!

What are Alternatives to Waxing?

You may choose to avoid waxing for numerous reasons. That doesn’t mean that you still need to live with unwanted body hair. The WRxIGHT Beauty Bar offers an alternative for hair removal:

LASER HAIR REMOVAL  – Skin MD and Beyond offers laser hair removal as a permanent alternative to treat unwanted hair. Laser treatments offer a long-term reduction of hair growth anywhere on the body, and patients see lasting results within 6 – 12 sessions. Click here to learn more about laser hair removal.
